London Bus

The New York City Taxi, The San Francisco Trolly, The Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile.... every 60 years or so one of these iconic pieces of transportation is up for a re-design. This year it was time for the Routmaster, the archetypal red double-decker bus that cruises through London with amazing agility. Determined not to suffer the fate of the the classic NYC yellow Check cab, the city of London engaged a variety of UK coach builders to deliver design proposals in 2008 to improve on the classic Routmaster. The winning Wrightbus design was unveiled this week at the London Transport Museum. It pays homage to the classic while still looking forward... this handsome lad is quite asymmetrical.

Objects with a Void

The bright colors, and interesting, yet simple designs is what attracted me to write this blog. These photos are just a few of the designs exhibited at the London Design Festival 2010. The designs explore the role of voids in objects

Six designers responded to the brief, 'Intentional or coincidental, voids in objects have the power to define the function and aesthetics of the objects. It's a dismissed yet integral part of design that captivates our imagination.'

Pantone Founder graduate of Hofstra University

Just found out today in my graphic design 2 class that the founder of Pantone, Lawrence Herbert was a graduate of Hofstra University. He graduated with a double major in biology and chemistry. His plan was to go on to medical school, but in 1956 he began working for Pantone on a part-time basis and became so intrigued with his work that he scrapped his idea of pursuing his studies as a physician.
